Matthias Oestringer is a highly respected violinist, violist, and pedagogue based in Singapore, whose career spans over three decades of dedicated teaching and performance. With more than 30 years of experience, Matthias has played a pivotal role in shaping the musical journeys of countless students—many of whom have gone on to win prizes at international competitions and secure placements at prestigious conservatories and music institutions around the world.

A passionate educator, Matthias believes in guiding each student according to their unique personality, learning style, and artistic potential. His teaching philosophy is rooted in patience, empathy, and a deep respect for individuality. He places strong emphasis on detailed technical foundation, expressive musicianship, and long-term artistic development, nurturing not just performers but thoughtful and independent musical thinkers.

A permanent resident of Singapore, Matthias serves as Lecturer in Principal Study (Violin) at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA), where he has been a valued faculty member for many years. In addition, he is the founder of Fidelio Music Studio, an independent music education initiative he established in 2009 with the aim of fostering excellence in young musicians through a holistic and personalised approach. Prior to his move to Singapore, Matthias taught at the Emmerich Smola Music Academy in Kaiserslautern, Germany.

Alongside his extensive teaching career, Matthias maintains an active and diverse performance life. As a freelance musician, he has performed with a wide range of professional ensembles and held leadership positions in several productions. Most recently, he was Principal Violist for the Singapore seasons of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Sunset Boulevard and The Phantom of the Opera in 2025—two major theatrical productions that showcased his versatility and command as an orchestral musician. He is also regularly engaged as a performer with the Metropolitan Festival Orchestra, New Opera Singapore, and the Singapore Lyric Opera Orchestra, and is a founding member of the Concordia Quartet, (2019-2022) known for its insightful chamber music interpretations.

Matthias has been recognized in both performance and pedagogy. He was awarded First Prize in the prestigious Jugend Musiziert competition in Germany, and has since contributed to the classical music community as a jury member for events such as Jugend Musiziert and the Ferenc Liszt International Competition in Malaysia, offering his insights and experience to the next generation of musicians.

With a rare blend of artistic integrity, pedagogical insight, and professional experience, Matthias Oestringer remains a committed advocate for classical music education and performance—continuing to inspire students and audiences alike in Singapore and beyond.
